Diaconal Ministry

The Diaconal Ministry at Christ the King is focused on serving the physical, financial, and emotional needs of the church body and the broader community. Deacons are tasked with supporting the mission of the church by providing care and assistance to those in need. Our deacons focus on several areas of care and assistance:

  1. Caring for the Poor and Needy: Deacons help meet the material needs of the congregation, including financial assistance, food, clothing, and shelter for those facing hardship.

  2. Supporting the Widows, Orphans, and Vulnerable: This ministry often focuses on the care of widows, orphans, the elderly, and others who may be vulnerable or marginalized in society.

  3. Encouraging Fellowship and Community: The Diaconal Ministry helps foster a sense of unity in the church by organizing events, meals, or other activities that build relationships and care for the congregation.

  4. Promoting Mercy and Justice: Deacons help the church to engage in acts of mercy, reflecting the biblical call to serve others and demonstrate justice in the community.

  5. Managing Church Resources: Deacons assist in the practical management of the church's physical assets, including the church building, finances, and general operations.

The role of deacons is rooted in Scripture, particularly in passages like 1 Timothy 3:8-13, which outlines qualifications for deacons, and Acts 6:1-6, where the first deacons were chosen to serve the needs of the early church. While the office of deacon is distinct from the office of elder, both roles are critical to the overall health and mission of the church.
