Our Beliefs

Christ the King El Paso embraces the historic Christian faith as revealed in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. With Christians throughout history we affirm:

The Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures

We believe the Bible is God's Word, completely trustworthy and without error. It is the ultimate authority for all that we believe and practice in life.

The Trinity

The Bible teaches that one real and personal God exists eternally in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Human Beings

The Bible teaches that human beings are created gloriously in the image of their Creator to enjoy God and honor him in their entirety. The human race, however, is estranged from its Creator through the overwhelming power of sin. Left to ourselves, we would not fulfill the wonderful purpose for which we were created, but instead perish forever.

The Person of Jesus Christ

God the Son took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless life, obeying God's law completely, suffered and died on the cross of Calvary, and then was raised bodily from the grave on the third day. He did this to accomplish salvation for his people.

Faith

Salvation is received by faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by good works (though good works are evidence of a transformed life).

The Church

The church is the people of God from all ages, saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, the head of the church, also called "the body of Christ." Christians join together in local communities or churches to worship their Lord, to grow together in his likeness, and to enjoy serving him together.

Return of Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ will return to the earth bodily in order to usher in the great consummation of all things. In that day He will sit in judgment over all peoples and nations, past and present.

These and other truths are affirmed in various statements of faith from the early church, such as the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed. We also stand within the rich tradition of the Reformation of the sixteenth century which is anchored in the gospel of grace. The Westminster Confession of Faith is a beautiful expression of the central teachings of the Bible and has served as the doctrinal standard for Presbyterians since the seventeenth century.

A Brief History: Who We Are

Christ the King El Paso is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. The PCA was formed in 1973 in response to the liberal theology of mainline Presbyterianism in the United States. Our denomination is biblically and theologically conservative, evangelical and orthodox in her belief. We are the second largest Presbyterian body in the world and among the fastest growing denominations in America and around the globe.
Christ the King El Paso began as a “mission” church plant in 1998 by some faithful local believers with support from the Southwest Church Planting Network based at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas and the Presbytery of the Southwest. Christ the King was organized into a formal or "particular" church in January 2002. We thank our Lord for providing this church for El Paso, the Southwest and beyond!
